Ultra ULT33053 Review by . "just another customer" (San Francisco, CA)

I bought this enclosure to fit a 750GB hard drive, and I am pleased. I read a few reviews of this product before purchasing.

The unit is easy to set up. Windows XP recognized the drive immediately. Although the fan runs continually (a 750GB puts out some heat), the fan is quiet enough not to disturb someone in a quiet room. Sort of like the quiet hum inside a network room. I probably would not want to sleep with it running, however.

The manufacturer includes an eSATA card and eSATA cable (different than the SATA cable within the enclosure) so you can plug this enclosure into a computer through eSATA or USB. I give them high marks for including that.

There is one issue with installation and design, but this issue would not stop me from buying again. The internal power connection between the enclosure and the drive is very tight and needs to be forced a little. It seems to me that a few extra millimeters in design could have avoided this problem. Drive enclosures are always too tight, which is annoying but prevents movement while operating. However, in this case, I don't think it was necessary.

I purchased 3 of these HDD Enclosures and two out of three were bad 1 lasted a month and the other arrived defecteced. I also bought a Power Supply from ultra and it went bad in a month Ultra was a good product at one time but the designers have left something out They have no clue how it install a drive in there inclosures or dee thyr fit is to tight and the retaining cover srew holes are not threaded. The wireing connectors are crammped should have had a direct conect to board The smaller plug sometimes loosens up If you mention these problem to tech there answer is I wasn't aware of this. If you don't like the company don't ingnore it's problems just quit, your only hurting the rest of us This Could be a great enclosure with a couple small mods

Ultra ULT33053 Review by Douglas Mesnard

i have 6 of these enclosures, and they work great, i never had a problem with my computer not recognizeing them, got tired of all the plug-ins so i bought the 180w power center, it carries all 6 drives easily, with no problems, i have 2 more esata enclosures in the closet waiting for their tour of duty, i wouldnt hesitate at all if i needed another power center to purchase one, and likewise for the enclosures, so if someone is having a problem it has to be something else conflicting with the workability of these ultra work horses,
